2024 Prada Marfa and Gila Bend
As we were leaving Big Bend to continue west on highway 67, we came across a TARS (Tethered Aerostat Radar System) site and was able to get a picture of the unmanned blimp that’s used to monitor the US border with Mexico.
Once we got to the town of Marfa, we turned on highway 90 where we came across a single building with nothing else around. This turned out to be Prada Marfa. It’s a sealed mockup of a Prada boutique, located in the desert near Marfa, Texas on highway. It was created by an artist and has been highlighted in Vogue magazine. Inside there is a fall 2005 collection of Prada shoes and handbags.
After an overnight stay in Deming, New Mexico, we went to Gila Bend, Arizona which is west of Phoenix. The reason for our stay here was to explore the painted rock petroglyph site. From our past blogs, you can probably guess that we’re fascinated by these rocks. This one didn’t have much of a hike to it as we’ve done at other sites. Still it was maybe the best display in one consolidated area that we’ve seen.
