2024 Wisconsin Dells and Mackinac Island
8/16/2024 to 8/29/2024
As we headed to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin we stayed briefly in Fargo, North Dakota and Carlton, Minnesota which is close to Duluth. Our overnight stay was at the Black Bear Casino Resort. No, we didn’t win. We’ll have to go back to explore more of this state, but for now Minnesota is checked off our list. We only have 4 states remaining in our list that are waiting for us to visit.
Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin is a beautiful area. This town has a lot of tourist attractions and is famous for its indoor and outdoor water parks. Our excursion for this stay was a Dells boat tour to the Upper Dells.
Our boat tour had 2 shore landings. The first stop was Witches Gulch where we walked through a passage carved by wind and water.
The second stop was Stand Rock which is a towering pillar of sandstone that’s home to the famous dog leap to the top of the tall rock.
While in Wisconsin...
...a cheese store stop is always a must! And yes! We bought more than we should have!
...stop for a big breakfast before we start our day (well once in a while)!
Our next stay was a long-standing bucket list of mine. A visit to Mackinac Island, Michigan. Because vehicles aren’t allowed on the island, we stayed in St. Ignace. A local man told us of the many activities St. Ignace offers during the summer months. Also, there is a lot of history and places to visit in this small town. We’ll need to go back someday to explore it all.
Mackinac Island was all that I expected and then some. We brought our bikes on the ferry and rode the 8.2 miles around the island. Of course, Jeff had to ride the 8.2 miles twice. While he rode it the second time I did the tourist thing - SHOPPING! There are many places to stop and just take in the surroundings. A visit to this historic island, is a step back in time with its Victorian homes and horse and carriage rides. The highlight of our visit for me was the Grand Hotel! The first time I saw this hotel was in the movie Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. It was even more spectacular than I envisioned. When we go back someday to explore St. Ignace, we’ll have to splurge and spend a night or two at the Grand Hotel!
Finally had time to view this part of your trip. It looks amazing. I would have went shopping too 🙂
