How You Fit into The World

Have you given much thought as to how you fit into the world? Probably, not.  Like most people, they have settled for what life has dealt them.  They accept their fate without a second thought.  When you think differently about things you realize it’s okay to opt out of the busy lifestyle that our culture has become.  You realize, there is more to life than what our culture is wanting us to buy into. When you opt out, let go and move past this notion of everyone should live a hectic lifestyle, unimaginable doors begin to open.  I believe, we humans need to feel ground under our feet and relearn how we fit into the world.  There is no need to accept the role of being a cog in someone’s employment matrix or living an unfulfilled life.

We all have stories, ideas, thoughts, feelings and beliefs that help create the world we live in.  As James Allen, the author of “As A Man Thinketh” states, “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he, not only embraces the whole of a man’s being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life.  A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.”  To me, this means that all the stories, ideas, beliefs, thoughts and feelings we have are fully capable of becoming our reality, our life and even our legacy.

We all create our own unique stories but together we write the story of our world.  If together we write the story of the world and a man becomes what he thinks, are our combined stories that bad or are we being fooled by false perceptions that others want us to believe?  They say, might makes right which is true if you are referring to physical force but, no one can control your mind but you.  We have everything we need to control our own minds.  Then why do you suppose so many people do not exercise this right?  Most seem to just go along with things until something jars them to their core causing them to start thinking on their own.  Henry Ford put it like this, “Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason, so few engage in it.”

The only thing we can change is ourselves which all begins with a thought, belief or feeling.  For many years frustration, guilt and inner conflict was my personal story which in my mind seemed to keep me disconnected from others.  As I worked through these limiting beliefs I began to realize my story was just small ripple on the ocean of stories that made up the world.  This helped me gain a different perspective on how to view life and where I fit into the world.  I have learned, much to my disbelief, that I am not the center of anyone’s world.  I also learned, much to my disbelief, that all our stories are deeply connected.

Have you ever met someone that maybe is sailing around the world or is living and traveling fulltime in an RV and wondered how are they be doing this?  What about their job? Who takes care of their house?  They must be rich.  They must have wealthy parents footing the bill.  They must have won the lottery.  I wish I could do this.  Most times, the people living like this who I have interviewed are not rich, don’t have wealthy parents footing the bill, and have not won the lottery.  Rather, they are people who think differently.  They refuse to continue living in the rat race our culture has so willingly provided.  They believe they can live with less which means having more freedom.  Every person I have interviewed started with a thought that they could live life differently.  Their thoughts became beliefs and through their actions it became their reality.

Through our experiences we direct or life story.  Your life and where you fit into the world comes down to the thoughts, beliefs and choices you make along the way.  If you change the way you think, believe and act, you change your story and where you fit into the world.  It really is that simple.  Our mind is a divine creation designed to protect us.  It doesn’t like things that might hurt us, so it tries to convince us not to try things that might be too risky like sailing around the world or living fulltime in an RV.  We fit into the world where our mind believes we are safe.

So many people live boring lives causing them to fill themselves with outside things, refusing to think differently about the world they live in.  What they don’t understand is that they created their boring unfulfilled lives with their thoughts, beliefs and actions.  When you feel too cold or too hot you are uncomfortable, and you act to change the temperature. You had a thought, feeling, belief and acted to change the temperature.  There is no difference if you are living a boring life, feeling unfulfilled or want a better life; thought, belief, action will bring about a change.  If you embrace the uncomfortable feelings of taking risks, you will gain comfortableness in your life.

When you realize that all you have is right now, everything changes.  You will begin to understand how you fit into the world.  Knowing you can lose everything at any time makes it that much more precious.  Life is too short to buy into the false narratives.  Take time to think differently about where you fit into the world’s story.  Take time to think about what is important in your world.  Take time to live a wonderful life, because before you know it’s over.
