2023 Gunnison Colorado

We travelled on toward the quaint little town of Gunnison, CO which meant we had to travel via Monarch Pass over the Continental Divide which is at an altitude of 11312 feet. In a gas motor home towing a vehicle, it's a little slow going, but we made it.

While there we took a ride through the mountains to Telluride and walked the town taking in the historic sites. That day there was a high school band playing 60’s and 70’s music in the town park. They were excellent! We found a seat and enjoyed the music and sang along to our favorites. When the music was over, we took an off rode ride up to Bridal Veil Falls.

Our son Brian and grandson Henry came and stayed with us for a few days before the race, so Brian could get acclimated to the altitude and get some running in in order to help his endurance during the race. We took a few days to explore and went to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park…

…and Crested Butte where we did a little off-road excursion then visited the town.

…Brian and Henry also found some time to enjoy the paddle board.

Buena Vista was our next location, so we would be close enough to Twin Lakes CO. This location was one of the pit stops in the Leadville 100-mile race where Brian would be stopping. Daughter in-law Bret and granddaughter Harlow flew out in time to be at the race and do a little family time. Since Callahan was only 3 months old, he stayed in Mississippi with his maternal grandparents.
